Leontus Burgin, a 31-year-old father of two, died on Sunday, May 30, at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital, three days after drinking the poisonous substance.

It is claimed by relatives that the security guard lost hope after losing his job recently.

Grace Burgin-Haywood, Leontus’ grieving mother, told SEARCHLIGHT her son paid a visit to her at Little Tokyo on Saturday, May 22, 2010, but even though he spent most of the time counselling her, she had no clue he would later consume a poisonous substance.

She said the next time she saw her son he was a patient at the MCMH.

“He was crying. I say, Leon what are you crying for? Tell me what happen. He turn to me and say, ‘Mummy, I know you love me and I love you, but it happen so. It is a must I had to do it,’” said Burgin-Haywood.

Burgin-Haywood said her son told her that he was also ordered to leave his wife’s home.

Fighting back tears, Burgin-Haywood said she assisted her son in getting a piece of ice, as well as praying with him before he passed on.

Leontus Burgin was a regular caller to many of the local radio talk shows.(HN)
