Book Fair in Cuba
St. Vincent and the Grenadines has been invited to attend a book fair in Cuba in February 2011.{{more}}
The invitation was issued to Minister of Culture René Baptiste during a visit to Cuba on the weekend of May 14, 2010. While in Cuba, Baptiste held official discussions with the city Historian of Havana and Presidente Zuleica Romay Guerra of the Instituto Cubano Del Libro on the Book Fair of 2011.
The aim of the 2011 Book Fair is to further inform and educate the Cuban people, and by extension the Latin American Nations, about the various countries with which Cuba has relations, more on a people-to-people basis.
The main feature of St. Vincent and the Grenadinesâ participation will be the Cuban Launch of the celebrated History text written by Vincentian History Professor Dr. Bernard Marshall entitled âSlavery Law and Society in the British Windward Islands 1763-1823-a comparative study-2007â.
The Book Fair of 2011 will also feature the cultural manifestations of each ALBA country-displaying music, cinema (film); books; musicians; artists; artistes; authors; poets. Each country will be expected to bring delegates and exhibits. Countries will be permitted to sell books, music ads, films, and artistic pieces.
St. Vincent and the Grenadines had previously participated in the International Book Fair in Cuba in 2008. The 2011 Book Fair will be dedicated to ALBA Cultura.
