PBSS narrowing gap between home and school

In an effort to better the relations between the school and the home, the Petit Bordel Secondary School (PBSS) conducted a series of activities over the period Monday, May 3, to Thursday, May 6, 2010.{{more}}

One of the activities was a number of visits to the homes of selected students. During these visits, teachers and parents discussed issues considered pertinent to the students academic, moral, spiritual and social development.

The week’s activity culminated in what was dubbed ‘Parents Appreciation Day’. Parents were allowed to sit with and participate in classroom sessions with their children.

At 10:30 a.m. parents were further involved in a workshop session: ‘Narrowing the Gap between the Home and the School’. Resource persons for the activity were: Polly Oliver, of the Gender Affairs Division, and Roslyn Williams, Town Clerk of Chateaubelair.

A barbeque was later held, and some of the proceeds went to assist in defraying the medical expenses of Basil Duncan Jr – a student of the PBSS who is expected to travel overseas shortly to have a kidney transplant.

The week was evaluated as a successful one. While parents pledged to give support to the school in the form of a vegetable garden, in paying more visits to the school and in supporting positive attitudes at home, the staff has pledged to continue similar activities in the upcoming school year.
