SVG Players International looking for another win

SVG Players International has one goal – that of capturing an unprecedented 5th ‘Band of the Year’ title.

The Band can perhaps be regarded as one of the more successful Mas Bands in this country, having placed in the top three, 8 out of the last 9 years in competition.{{more}}

But the guys and gals are not about to become complacent.

“We can’t rest on our laurels and lose perspective,” Lance Neverson, Marketing and Promotion Officer, said at the launch of the 2010 presentation, ‘Myths of Eden’, on Sunday, March 7.

“We are totally focused. In fact, we are so focused that we have started early,” he continued.

The presentation includes ten sections, which comprise 2 junior categories boasting over 125 children each.

Neverson said that they would be looking to strengthen the number of adults as well.

“In the past we have had 895 persons on the road. We really want to get to that 1,000 mark,” the Marketing and Promotions Officer told SEARCHLIGHT.

And with this being the tenth year, the Mas Camp is looking for more of the same in the years to come.

“We have won every category there is in Vincy Carnival – there is not much else except to win all the categories in a single year,” Neverson explained.

As for the persons who have toiled and contributed to the Band’s success thus far, Neverson noted that the involvement in the production of Mas was what he termed a “labour of love.”

Except for those at the front, Neverson mentioned the few “grass roots groups” whom he thanked for putting in a tremendous job over the years.
