According to Minister of Culture, René Baptiste, the Prime Minister has been formally requested to convene a committee to begin the process of qualifying the former trade unionist, political leader and a champion fighter for the poor and working class people.

Baptiste was at the time speaking at a poorly attended ceremony to honour Joshua Wednesday, March 17, at Sion Hill.

“About four years ago we started having this at the Kingstown cemetery and we had a lot more people until someone said let’s move it to Sion Hill,” Baptiste said.

“Joshua always identified with the poor, but it is unfortunate that many of the people who benefitted from his work have forgotten him,” she continued.

“I read the papers and persons keep calling for him to be a national hero – is this the way we treat national heroes?

“If I am the only person standing here, then I want to be able to do the right thing,” Baptiste said.

The Minister said that the staging of the short programme was announced, but the very social commentators who constantly make the call were absent.
