Bigger SVG Community College coming

The extension of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Community College Division of Arts, Sciences, and General Studies this year will allow the institution to double its student intake.{{more}}

This development will allow the college to accommodate up to 2000 students, says Prime Minister Dr.Ralph Gonsalves.

At the time of the announcement was made, he was delivering the Budget for the fiscal year 2010 under the segment Education.

The construction, scheduled to start in the last quarter of this year, falls under the third phase of expansion of the college.

Gonsalves disclosed that the phase is being financed by a grant of EC$14.6 million under the 9th European Development Fund.

The expansion will include a new lecture theatre and classroom block, teachers’ block, student union building, games facility and external works.

Giving the specifics, Gonsalves stated the completed facility will boast a minimum of 20 regular classrooms, modern physics, chemistry, computer and e-learning, and language laboratories.

The institution first opened its doors in January 1997 after students were relocated there from a dilapidated building on the St. Vincent Grammar School compound.
