Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves told the nation via a live broadcast from the House of Assembly on Tuesday that he was giving the update mainly to inform Storm’s friends about his recovery.

The senior Gonsalves said his youngest son suffered six breaks to his right hand, and two on his left.

The prime minister also disclosed that Storm’s spleen had to be removed.

Storm was rushed to Barbados for further medical assistance after he was stabilized at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital.

The elder Gonsalves thanked God that his son was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

He said the helmet saved the teenager, as well as the utility pole that he collided with.

He might have broken his neck and gone over a nearby embankment had he not hit the pole, said the prime minister.
