LIME worker on ITU team to Haiti

LIME Network Maintenance Engineer George Kelly is a member of the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) team that has flown to Haiti to provide some of the earliest assistance with the communication needs of the earthquake-ravaged country.{{more}} Kelly volunteered for the mission which was undertaken in association with the Caribbean Association of National Telecommunications Organizations (CANTO).

The team’s two primary assignments are to: install 60 satellite phones and other satellite equipment to immediately improve communications to and from the island, especially for the massive relief effort now underway, and to do a preliminary assessment of the damage done to the country’s telecommunications infrastructure.

LIME Caribbean CEO David Shaw Commented: “George is a shinning example of the sprit of community that runs through the LIME organization. Although he was made aware of the absence of the most basic amenities and the possible dangers of all sorts, he stuck his hand up and volunteered to help our neighbours. We are all extremely proud of him.”
