On Tuesday, December 15, 2009, the SVG Coastguard delivered 40 food baskets to the less fortunate in the Colonarie area.

The drive continued to Layou yesterday, where another 40 food baskets were distributed.

This year’s distribution will bring the number of food baskets distributed over the years by the Coastguard to 800.

The Coastguard has been conducting the programme for the past ten years.

With assistance from the business community and individuals, 80 food baskets are made available each year.

In the early days of the programme, the project concentrated on the Calliaqua area. The decision was made two years ago to spread the Christmas joy to other communities.

Since then, baskets have been distributed in Richland Park, Barrouallie, Chateaubelair and Biabou areas.

The Coastguard Commander and officers expressed their thanks to all who contributed to make this worthwhile venture a success.
