Carriere turns on Christmas Lights tonight

The first Community Christmas Lighting ceremony for 2009 takes place in the village of Carriere this evening at 7:30 pm.{{more}}

The annual turning on of the lights will set the stage for the Christmas celebrations and will support the upcoming Nine Mornings activities.

In addition to the turning on of the lights, persons attending the ceremony will hear short addresses from the area Representative Girlyn Miguel, and Minister of Culture Rene Baptiste. Pastor Alwyn Joseph from the Sans Souci Streams of Power Church will be the feature speaker.

There will also be several performances from persons, including CherryAnn Pompey who won gold in this year’s Gospel Festival, Carriere Nine Mornings Carollers, Carlton “CP” Hall, Boom Drummers from Rose Hall and Rolly and Lennox Bowman, among others.

Nine Morning’s activities will follow from December 16 to 24, beginning at 4am daily.

The village of Carriere has won the best Nine Mornings Community on three consecutive occasions. It lost that title to Layou by one point last year. Carriere has also won the Best Christmas Community on one occasion.
