Candida and Calicia receive UWI awards

Two Vincentians were among persons receiving awards in Science at the University of the West Indies St. Augustine Campus recently.{{more}}

On Wednesday, October 29, at the 14th Annual Faculty of Science and Agriculture Awards Ceremony, Calicia Charles and Candida Da Silva were among the persons who received awards for their outstanding performance in the sciences during the academic year 2008-2009 at the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine Campus, Trinidad and Tobago .

Candida Da Silva was awarded the Head of Department’s award for the Best Year One Performance in Physics, while Calicia Charles received the Western Scientific Prize for the Best Year One Performance in Chemistry.

In 2007, Candida and Calicia were both awarded Exhibitions based on their performance in the Cambridge A’Level and the CXC Cape examinations.

Last year, Candida enrolled in the Faculty of Science and Agriculture to read for a Bachelor of Science degree with a double major in Mathematics and Physics. She has since transferred to the faculty of Engineering, where she will pursue a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. Calicia is reading for a Bachelor of Science degree majoring in Biochemistry and Chemistry.

The event took place at the Daaga Auditorium at the St Augustine Campus.
