The Youth Forum also launched the activities to celebrate Youth Month, held annually in October.

The theme for 2009 youth month is Youth, Understanding the struggles in difficult times.

The youth forum was centered around the Commonwealth theme Youth Mainstreaming, Critical to Sustainable Development, and brought together youths from NGO’s, especially church based, to get an understanding of the importance of youth participation and involvement in nation building, the importance of a national youth umbrella organization to the state, the guiding principles of the National Youth Council (non-functioning at present) and the benefits which could be derived from the Vincy Home Coming 2009 programme.

Resource persons were Rosita Snagg, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of National Mobilisation, Jomo Thomas, Barrister at law, Major Dwight Lewis of the Cadet Corps, Curtis King, Historian and Past President of the NYC, and Ambassador Ellsworth John of the Diaspora Unit in the Prime Minister’s Office.
