SVGMA hosts an Evening of Music tomorrow

The Peace Memorial Hall comes alive tomorrow, Saturday, 25th July, at 8:00 pm with a sparkling Evening of Music, presented by the 64-year-old St. Vincent and the Grenadines Music Association.{{more}}

Star of the evening is Victor M. Job Jr. DIP. ABRSM, who in April 2009 gained Distinction in the Practical Piano Diploma Examination conducted here by Charles Barnes, visiting examiner for the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music London.

Victor Job Jr. had previously achieved outstanding successes, gaining the Championship Trophy for piano playing at the 2006 St. Vincent Music Festival, passing with distinction in music at the CSEC Examination in 2005, and winning the Hedy Robinson Prize for Excellence in the Theory of Music grade 7 of the ABRSM in 2006. He also plays the clarinet and saxophone, and now sings in the New Kingstown Chorale. He proceeds to the St. Augustine Campus of the University of the West Indies in September to read for a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and Mathematics, and hopes to continue his musical studies.

Guest Artiste for the evening is Andrea Gaymes – soprano, another young and talented Vincentian musician who also has to her credit a number of impressive achievements. She gained 5 gold medals and 2 silver medals, receiving the Patrick Prescod award at the 2006 St. Vincent Music Festival. Andrea was also the recipient of the Berklee College of Music World Tour Scholarship 2008, and holds a certificate in Performance from that institution, where she organized and hosted the show “Expressions: Music, a young girl’s Passion” June 7th and 8th, 2008.

At Saturday evening’s performance, Andrea will be accompanied on piano by Victor M. Job Jr. and Courtney Williams, while Victor’s clarinet items will be accompanied by Patrick Prescod on piano. The programme is expected to attract a wide cross section of music lovers.
