Persons participating in Sewing, Floral Arrangement, Cake Icing and Homemakers, and Basic Information Technology, were all awarded with certificates on Sunday.
The well crafted cake designs and floral arrangement were the main attraction of the afternoon as many flocked to the different tables to get a glimpse of the handy work done by the graduates.
Zonal coordinator, Anne Jones told the gathering that it was through the hard work and dedication of the facilitators and the students the program was able to become a success. Even though some persons dropped out of the program for different reasons, Jones said this did not deter the others from pressing on and completing the task at hand. She also challenged the women and lone male to show the world what they can do with their newly acquired skills.
Area representative and Minister of Health, Dr Douglas Slater, was also on hand to share brief remarks. Slater reminded the graduates and gathering of how important education and technology are towards the development of oneâs self. âEmbrace every opportunity to learn more,â Slater urged. The Health minister also stated that such programs could help towards the fight against crime and violence in the country. He said that if more young people get involved in these programs, it would help tremendously towards curbing the situation.
Acting Director of Adult and Education Frances Clarke-Palmer, who described the exhibited pieces as works of art, exhorted the graduates to continue making a difference by using their God given gifts to further themselves. Clarke-Palmer also noted the fact that so many persons participated in the different programs is testimony to all the hard work that has been placed into the program. She also implored the men to come out and start participating in the programs and not to just come and wait for them after the class has ended.
Some participants earlier this week, took the Caribbean Certificate of Secondary Level Competence examinations (CCSLC), with the oldest person being aged 61.
The ceremony capped off with cultural item from Amanda and Rachael Frederick. Aaliyah John also received a huge round of applause for her inspirational poem about education and a dance piece.(JSV)
