The Alternative Sustainable Livelihood Project (ASLP) that will soon be launched will have a point man – Minister Saboto Caesar.{{more}}
At a press conference last Tuesday 23rd, Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves announced that Caesar will be appointed as a Minister of State in the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.
Hailing Caesarâs leadership and sound understanding of matters of parliament and governance, Gonsalves said that the young Senator will provide direct leadership and management to ASLP, in addition to other specific duties in the ministry.
At the conclusion of the recent anti-crime initiative dubbed Vincy Pac, which among other things saw the destruction of millions of marijuana trees, Dr Gonsalves said that the ASLP will be put in place to provide an alternative to young people who are tempted to go the way of illegal marijuana farming.
He explained that Minister of Agriculture Montgomery Daniel will continue to have overall oversight over the ministry and give special attention to agricultural diversification, the Arrowroot industry, husbandry the agro processing industry along with his regional and international links.
Calling the move a sensible division of labour, he said that in addition to the ASLP, Caesar will also pay special attention to the land bank, the agricultural training institute and fisheries and forestry in a general sense.
Caesarâs Ministerial appointment begins on July 1st.
He is currently serving as Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Housing, Lands, town planning, and informal human settlements.(KJ)
