Heavy rains causes movement in Bottom Village
Most Vincentians have easy access to their homes, however, the same cannot be said for residents of Bottom Village, a section of Victoria Village.
This area is occupied by approximately ten families, who over the years, have had to travel on a dirt road to get to their homes.{{more}}
On Saturday, June 13th, 2009, a heavy downpour of rain caused a landslide, which broke the section of the road adjacent to James and Hazel Scotlandâs home.
Heavy debris blocked sections of the Scotlandâs yard and created problems to get in and out of the house.
James lamented to SEARCHLIGHT that his wife visited the National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) on Monday, June 15th, 2009, to report the matter,
but up to press time Wednesday no one from that organization had visited the area even though a promise was made to do so.
âIf we have a real disaster, I wonder if we can handle it,â said Scotland.
âThe politicians always come and make promises, but nobody has done anything about this road. It is in a terrible condition,â said Scotland.
Scotland is appealing to the relevant authorities to visit the area to see the condition of the road.(HN)
