Delivering the keynote address at the NYC/NESDEC National Youth Conference on the way forward for the Council today, Burke stated that the young people must continue to act to promote a viable model for a National Youth Parliament, and to provide a broader avenue for youth consultation and involvement.
He also stated that the need for urgent action to help young people is why the NYC is still relevant. In moving forward, he said, the Council must act to end all forms of violence and abuse, including the violence that is meted out to citizens. Burke stressed that police violence is of particular current concern, and the NYC must act to promote the notion that no one is above the law.
Also speaking at the Youth Conference was President of the NYC, Michael Johnson, who called on the nationâs youth to get on board this important drive in rebuilding the NYC to its once vibrant stage. He urged the participants to enter the new era with confidence, to stand up and affirm their readiness to take charge of their destiny and the continued development of the nation and the re-birth of our people.
Participants were also engaged in discussions to move the organization into a new direction.
A SWOT analysis of the organization was done, along with issues pertaining to crime and violence and the NYC constitution.
Meantime, the National Youth Council has congratulated the St Vincent Grammar School for taking the RBTT Young Leaders title for a second straight year, and also the St Clair Dacon and the St Josephâs Convent Kingstown for taking top honours in this yearâs competition.
The NYC also commended the RBTT for the role which it plays in molding the young minds of our future leaders and looks forward to continued collaboration.
