The girls: Shinnez Quinton, Miss Form 2B; Faylicia John, Miss Form 3C; Daryl-Ann Delpesche, Miss Form 1B; Lynda Peters, Miss Form 4C; Rickeisha Marshall, Miss Form 4B; Tameika Duncan, Miss Form 1K; Lauricia Williams, Miss Form 2C; Sarann Robinson, also from Form 2C, along with the show’s coordinator, visited Searchlight to talk about their preparations for the show.

The girls, who appeared timid at first, eventually opened up about the grueling training sessions headed by coordinator Nicholas Bartholomew. According to Bartholomew, who is a teacher at the school, the girls undergo training every day of the week. They are trained in modeling, communications skills and the proper execution of their talent chosen for the night of the show. Form 3C representative Faylicia John said that the training was completely different from what she expected. “It’s very hard to do, especially the modeling and speaking (communication skills),” she said. Lynda Peters of Form 4C also said it was hard for her to balance her time between school, training sessions and her extra curricular activities. “But I’ve been catching up,” she said.

Bartholomew also mentioned the prizes. The winner of Miss BCK 2009 will receive a trophy, a gift voucher for school supplies and have all their CSEC subjects paid for by the school. Prizes will also be awarded to the first and second runners up and the winners of each category.

According to the girls, the prizes along with the motivation from their classmates urged them to enter into the show. Each girl was chosen to enter the pageant by her classmates.

The girls will be judged in four categories, Talent, Interview, Evening wear and Creative wear. The show will take place at the Bishop’s College Kingstown at 6:00 pm. Tickets are $10 each or $15 at the door. Tickets can be bought at the school or from the contestants.(OS)
