The law officers were searching for two fugitives who escaped off a Dominican registered vessel that beached at Petit Bordel bay after the boat was involved in a high speed chase with the St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) coastguard on Saturday.

The operation, which began around 4:30 am, involved two coastguard vessels that were in the bay, three Sport Utility Vehicles (SUV), a pickup and a ten ton truck and over 50 heavily armed officers.

Five houses were searched and officers were stationed in the road at both ends of the village towards Chateaubelair and Rose Bank. Three men were taken into custody. However, two are Petit Bordel residents and the other came on vacation from Trinidad.

Around 8:15 a.m., the officers drove off in a caravan to Richmond then headed back to Kingstown. (AC)
