The 25 books, written by Fredrick Douglass, Zora Nele Horston, Dashielle Hammette, Richard Wright and Flannery O’Connor, among others, were handed over to Director of Library Services Joan O’Garro by Kevin Tierney.

Tierney is a Consular Officer at the U.S Embassy in Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean, based in Barbados.

On presenting the books, he said that he hoped users of the Library would make use of the literary works.

O’Garro, thanked Tierney for the collection of books, which are from the “Library of America Series”, and expressed hope that more would be donated in the future. This is not the first time books have been donated to the Kingstown Public Library by the U.S Government; in 2007, a number of books were handed over.(JJ)
