House of Hope reaching out in faith

President of the House of Hope Society Fr Sylvanus Regisford is of the view that there is a need for the Society to include all persons willing to assist the organisation in fulfilling its mandate.{{more}}

Regisford made this clear on Saturday, November 24, at the Society’s Annual General Meeting at the Methodist Church Hall, which was held under the theme “In His Service.”

Regisford said that the support from the community is necessary for the development of the organisation and that they need as much cooperation as possible.

He made mention that the organization is still awaiting funds promised under the Basic Needs Trust Fund for the renovation of a building the organization bought over a year ago. He also mentioned that the organization is still lacking a proper vehicle to carry out certain functions.

He said about $3,000 a month needs to be raised to carry out the functions of the Society, but when the Hospice care is started, that figure will increase to $9,000. “This is a tall order, but I’m convinced this can be done if we use the several sources of funding that are available to us, and if the government and clients who we serve make a contribution, then the Hospice would be in operation,” said Regisford.

Regisford said they plan to do more with Vincentian nationals in England and the USA. He said that there are already volunteers who send barrels of used clothing, which are sold in the organization’s thrift shop.

Elections were also held which unanimously returned to office the incumbent executive for the next year. Returning are: Father Sylvanus Regisford, President, Clare Keizer, Vice President, Father Alric Skerrit, Treasurer, and Irrith O’Garro, Secretary. (KW)
