Prisoners not forgotten – Human rights Association

Recent allegations of prisoner abuse have not gone “dormant and silent”. This assurance comes from President of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Human Rights Association (SVGHRA) Nicole Sylvester at a press conference on Wednesday.{{more}}

Sylvester said that while they could not comment on the issues surrounding the allegations, investigations are being conducted, and the organization has already met with prison management and inmates who alleged that their rights have been breached and who were subject to abuse.

She noted that the issues surrounding the events at the prison resulted in inmates receiving injuries such as fractures and broken bones.

The Human Rights President said that their meeting would continue today with other inmates and prison staff since the SVGHRA was deeply concerned with the state of affairs at her majesty’s prison.

Sylvester also voiced concern over the prison inmates who are not able to afford a lawyer of their own to get better representation. (SG)
