Following recommendations made by organizations present at Monday’s consultation with the Ministry of National Mobilization and the Social Investment Fund (SIF), a special committee will be formed to meet with the SIF in an effort to better help the organizations’ members.{{more}}

The committee will consist of a representative of a number of vulnerable groups, including the School for Children with Special Needs, the National AIDS Secretariat, the National Society of and for the Blind, the Association of Senior Citizens of SVG, and the National Society for persons with Disabilities.

At Monday’s session, the various organizations highlighted a number of issues affecting their groups, which hamper them from effectively assisting their members; first on their list is inadequate funding.

The committee when formed, will work with the SIF on three major issues: project support, capacity building and training and partnership among organizations: the SIF, NGOs and the private sector.

The committee is expected to be formed as early as next week and will meet with the SIF shortly after that.

The SIF is already involved with the National Society of and for the Blind and the Society for Disabled Persons, in poultry, sewing and craft projects. (JJ)
