Speaking at a PNM meeting in the new Arouca/ Maloney constituency which she had represented as the Arouca South MP, Manning said last night he did not want her experience in politics to go to waste.

Two weeks ago, Robinson-Regis announced, just days before she went to the US for heart surgery, that she would not be contesting the next general election.

“Upon her return, I will have a discussion with her to see how serious her illness is,” Manning said.

Robinson-Regis is now at a hospital in New York, recovering from seven-hour heart surgery she underwent last week Wednesday.

Manning said that she had represented her constituency well and also praised her performance as a Government minister.

People employed in the CEPEP programme can expect an increase in their salaries during Government’s next financial year, Manning also said last night. Government has no intention of getting rid of CEPEP and instead plans to expand the programme in the upcoming national budget.

“In due course, we will be expanding it,” he said.

He described Cepep as one of the best interventions Government had made for women who were the heads of households. (Trinidad Express)
