‘Don’t be afraid of your differently able child’

Parents are urged not to be afraid of their children if they are Differently Able and to understand that God has a reason for making a child in his own image.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of National Mobilization Rosita Snagg gave this advice during the closing ceremony of The National Society of Persons with Disabilities summer programme.{{more}}

According to Snagg, parents are hardly seen with these types of children and sometimes they behave as though they are afraid to take them out.

Snagg said that there is a reason why God has chosen to make these children the way they are, and they as parents should not be ashamed of them.

She also took the time out to remind members of the general public that differently able persons are a part of the society.

“Many persons who are differently challenged usually have difficulty in finding jobs,” Snagg stated.

According to the Permanent Secretary, these persons cannot survive on the public assistance they receive every month as it is not sufficient to fulfill all their needs.

The summer programme, which started July 16th – August 3rd was held under the theme: “The Environment, We can do better. Don’t Litter.”

Programme coordinator, Rudolph Roberts said that over the three-week period, participants were taken on three field trips including the Botanical Gardens where they covered the topic of Beautification during the first week, during the second week they visited the Water Catchment in Dallaway and in the third week they covered the topic of garbage disposal and visited the landfill at Belleisle.

A total of 31 children participated in this year’s summer programme.(SB)
