As the finals of the Courts comedy Challenge “Road to Stardom” were held on Saturday at the Peace Memorial Hall, it was Maurice “the Aquarian Born” Horne who emerged as winner and walked away with the grand prize of $2000.

Horne will represent St Vincent in Grenada on July 14 for the chance to win $5000 and one-year advertising contract as the OECS Courts mascot.

There had been a three-way tie between Horne, Sylvia Williams and Earl ‘Ole George’ Daniel. However, when Horne was announced winner, many in the audience expressed their disapproval and were leaning towards Williams who rocked the hall with her humour.

Speaking to Horne after the show, he said that it was his experience in show business over the past 30 years that helped him to win. Horne told SEARCHLGHT that he would be working on new material before he goes to Grenada and that he intends to do his best and make St Vincent proud.

Persons were literally falling off their seats and laughing at the top of their lungs as the comedians entertained the packed hall. The presence of the ominous crowd must have brought jitters to one comedienne as she ran off the stage without even completing her joke citing stage fright as her reason.

Local Artiste, Bomani set the pace of the show by belting out a string of his hit songs for 2007. New representative for Courts and blazing Soca diva Zoelah had the place in frenzy when she performed her three hit-songs for this year. Other performances came from Avenue Dancers.

Marketing Executive, Alexis Harry said that the event was geared towards identifying a personality to represent St Vincent and the Grenadines in the grand finale in Grenada. Harry said that the love and passion for the art form has been spreading throughout the nation since the comedy showcase. “We are extremely happy that we fulfilled our objectives and the comedy art form got the deserved respect,” said Harry.

The other comedians were Jeffery “Snuffy” Martin, Haniff Charles and Nadine James.
