Speaking at last Monday’s fisherman’s day celebrations at the Calliaqua playing field, Prime Minister Dr Ralph Gonsalves said that Trinidad and Tobago’s Prime Minister Patrick Manning has agreed to lend a helping hand following that country’s planned TT $100 million upgrade of its coastguard.

Dr Gonsalves also spoke of plans afoot to upgrade the local coastguard.

“Currently I have had discussions with a Dutch company and a bank because I am looking at spending a further US$23 million to modernize the Coast Guard,” he said.

He said that three smaller boats have already been ordered to help at the Coast Guard and the Customs. (KJ)
