Lieutenant Henry of the Coast Guard told SEARCHLIGHT that the occupants of the vessel got away and that they couldnât move the vessel until daylight when it was safer to do so.
Chateaubelair residents who were on the beach at the time said that a quantity of marijuana was taken off the vessel.
The fibre glass vessel suffered some damage to its keel in the bow area and was taking on water, hence the reason it was taken to the Chateaubelair Bay, according to Henry.
Henry also said that two 85 horsepower outboard engines were taken off the vessel and taken to the Coast Guard base to be flushed as they had been submerged in salt water overnight. The Coast Guard is carrying out investigations to determine who owns the boat.
