The pediatric neurosurgical team was here from May 13-18. This is a highly specialized medical team focusing on treating children under 21 with brain and spinal problems. During their trip here they saw 22 patients and performed 5 surgeries with 100% success. Two other patients will be traveling to Virginia at the end of May for further surgery. The team also saw two patients from Grenada of which one underwent surgery. Dr. LaRose, a neurosurgeon from Grenada accompanied his patients and worked alongside the visiting medical team on the surgeries.

The partnership between the IHC and Rotary South began 5 years ago and has resulted in 17 medical team visits and 54 Vincentian children undergoing specialized surgery in Virginia. The value of the surgeries to date is EC$6 million and the value of the doctors’ services is EC$2 million all of which has been donated free of cost to the families of these children.

This partnership has been a truly remarkable team effort between the Rotary Club of St. Vincent South, the IHC, the Ministry of Health, the Government and the business houses in St. Vincent & the Grenadines. All visiting IHC teams have had glowing words of praise for the hard work and dedication of the doctors and staff at the Milton Cato Memorial Hospital.
