Another Ex-Police Officer Ordained

by Nelson King in New York 25.MAY.07

Following the footsteps of ex-police sergeant Emrey Jack-Alexander, another former member of the local constabulary has joined the ranks of “the Men of the Cloth.”{{more}}

Myron Phillips – originally from Georgetown, who served five years in the Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines’ Police Force and worked as a life underwriter with British American Life Insurance Company for eight years – graduated last Saturday, May 19 with an Associate’s degree in General Bible Survey from the Mt. Olive Bible Institute, Inc., in Brooklyn, Jack-Alexander’s alma mater.

Phillips, a registered nurse at Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center in Brooklyn, attained the double distinction of being ordained as a full-pledged minister immediately after graduation – one of two graduates to achieve such feat.

He credited former police inspector Westmore “Peppie” Hazel with providing him “undaunted support and encouragement” and his former boss, at British American Insurance Company, George Fredericks, a Pentecostal pastor, for helping to inculcate “much self-esteem and determination to succeed in life.” (NK)
