Jems to hold Climate Change Mitigation workshop
The JEMS Progressive Community Organisation is collaborating with the Caribbean Youth Environment Network (CYEN) to implement a training and development workshop on âClimate Change Mitigationâ at the Grace and Truth Campsite in Layou on 19-23 March 2007.
The workshop is funded by the Commonwealth Youth Programme Regional Centre for the Caribbean (CYP RCC) and the Global Environment Facility Small Grants Programmes (GEF SGP) of UNDP.{{more}}
Thirty (30) youth leaders from across the wider Caribbean inclusive of Haiti, Dominican Republic and Suriname will attend the workshop. The overall aim of the workshop is to raise awareness and knowledge of young people on the impact of climate change. The specific objectives of the project are to provide training in climate change, energy auditing of households, small business development and entrepreneurship to thirty participants from sixteen (16) Caribbean territories and to facilitate the development of four (4) youth businesses to provide energy auditing services in the four (4) pilot communities in Barbados, Dominica, St Lucia and Grenada.
The project is supported locally by the Environmental Services Unit, Ministry of Health and the Environment, The Community Development Division, Ministry of National Mobilisation, the Ministry of Telecommunications Science and Technology and VINLEC. A range of development and environment experts from St Vincent and the Grenadines and across the Caribbean region would participate in the workshop as resources persons and facilitators of the various sessions.
Hon. Dr Jerrol Thompson, Minister of Telecommunication, Science and Technology would present the feature address at the Opening Ceremony at the Grace and Truth Campsite at Layou on Monday 19 March 2007 at 9: 00 am.
