Nzimbu art exhibition to open in England for Black History month

An exhibition of the work of Vincentian banana craft artiste Nzimbu Browne opens today in England to officially launch Black History month.

The exhibition at the Arts Society of Buckinghamshire will be opened by HM Lord Lieutenant Sir Henry Aubrey-Fletcher.{{more}}

Nzimbu visited Wycombe earlier this year as part of SV2G’s educational tour from St Vincent and the Grenadines that included the Education Ministry’s Susan Dougan.

SV2G has been supported by the Arts Council England to develop the work of the Vincentian artiste who works primarily with dried banana leaves in a variety of colours and shades.

“Nzimbu has had successful exhibitions in Europe, Canada, the Caribbean and the USA. We are very fortunate to have been able to set up this project thanks to the assistance of the Arts Council. Our activities scheduled will encourage the community to identify and celebrate our heritage with an increased opportunity for learning through the arts. The workshops will inspire and develop the individuals own artistic flare with the use of this unique textile.” said Jacqueline Roberts of SV2G.

Through the painstaking work of finding inspiration and matching the colours and textures emerges unique creations telling stories of culture and a people’s struggle for self-determination.

Nzimbu is a gold and platinum award winner in the European business initiative directions, of total quality management. His unique combination of inspiration and creativity results in artistic scenes of life and experiences in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

High Commissioner for St Vincent and the Grenadines, Cenio Lewis, will be among guests at the official opening.
