HIV/AIDS Secretariat churches host workshop

The St Vincent and the Grenadines Christian Council in collaboration with the Caribbean Conferences of Churches, and the National HIV/AIDS Secretariat will host a two-day workshop on HIV/AIDS for clergy in St Vincent and the Grenadines on Tuesday, September 12 and Wednesday, 13, at the Methodist Church Hall.

The goals of the workshop are to bring religious leaders in St Vincent and the Grenadines up-to-date on new developments related to HIV/AIDS in St Vincent and the Caribbean as a whole, and their implications on our communities.{{more}}

To encourage churches to embark on individual and ecumenical HIV/AIDS initiatives to reduce the spread, stigma and discrimination associated with HIV/AIDS.

To create a cadre of religious leaders who are sufficiently informed on HIV/AIDS related issues with a view to promoting advocacy, prevention and care support programmes especially for the economically disadvantaged.

The facilitators at the workshop will be drawn from the National HIV/AIDS Secretariat and the Caribbean Conference of Churches.

Dr. Douglas Slater Minister of Health and the Environment will address the opening ceremony of the workshop which begins at 8:30a.m.
