Police conduct 4-week training course

The Special Services Unit (SSU) of the Royal St. Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force conducted a four-week Pre-Basic Training Course from May 22 to June 16, 2006.

The course was attended by nineteen participants from the Rapid Response Unit (RRU), Criminal Investigations Department (C.I.D), the Fire Brigade, the Coast Guard and SSU.{{more}}

The objective of the course was to train members of the force to perform their various functions in keeping with the standards set out by World Cup Cricket 2007.

Participants were tested in different subject areas such as Physical Training (USMC), Weapon Handling, Map Reading, Internal Security (IS) and Field Craft.

PC 568 Winston Sam of the SSU was the most outstanding student; other awards went to AB 352 Homer of the Coast Guard for topping the first USMC, PC’s 345 Gordon and 568 Sam of the SSU were tied for the second USMC, PC 738 John of the SSU took the M16 shot whilst PC 494 John also of the SSU took the pistol shot and PC 272 John of the Fire Brigade took the number one spot in the written exam.
