Bequia boys lead the way in Grenadines

Chezaul Walker of the Bequia Seventh Day Adventist Primary school is one of three pupils who gained the highest score nationwide in Mathematics in the 2006 Common Entrance Examination.

Walker, along with Raheem Hall of the Lodge Village Government School and Kuthbert Springer of the Georgetown Government School aced the Math test scoring a whopping 97% in the exam that was held on June 2.{{more}}

When Searchlight spoke with Chezaul on Tuesday evening, he was taking everything in stride. “God has helped me,” he outlined. He also gave credit to his mother Myrnel and father Levi, and grand parents. He placed sixth for boys and 15th overall. From the Hope Estate on the Northern Grenadine isle, Chezaul enjoys playing cricket and football and also reads a lot. He also likes to play computer games.

Despite Chezaul’s stellar performance in mathematics, he was not the highest placed performer from the Grenadines. He was beat out by Nicholas Friday, who placed 5th for boys and 11th overall.

The 10-year-old son of parliamentary representative for the Northern Grenadines, Dr. Godwin Friday, and Headteacher Kathryn Friday scored 90% in English, 91.67% in Math and 85% in General Paper.

Nicholas was one of the two successful students from the privately owned Paradise Primary School Inc. on Bequia. He told Searchlight that he is “extremely proud and happy” with his performance. He accredited his success to his mother who kept encouraging him to do well, and his teacher Miss Bowens.

Young Friday, who hasn’t yet decided on a future career, enjoys playing games on his computer, and says he is looking forward to attending the St. Vincent Grammar School in September. He also expressed thanks to his father, eight-year-old brother and other family members for their support.
