Microsoft to train disabled persons in SVG

The Hon Sir Louis Straker, Minister of Foreign Affairs led a threeperson delegation to the 36th regular session of the OAS General Assembly which was held in Santo Domingo, and concluded on Tuesday.

The delegation also comprised Washington-based diplomats, Ambassador Ellsworth John and Deputy Chief of Mission, La Celia Prince.{{more}}

Sir Louis addressed the plenary session on Monday on the General Assembly’s theme, “Good governance and development in a knowledge-based society.”

The Minister also delivered a speech on Tuesday at a luncheon hosted by Microsoft Corp. in which the latter announced a project to take place in St. Vincent and the Grenadines for the training of disabled persons. Microsoft will be offering a total in-kind contribution of software and training curricula valued at US$250,000 to countries of the OECS.

The total cost of the programme in St. Vincent and the Grenadines will be valued at US$100,000 and the Trust for the Americas is currently involved in negotiations with different entities, seeking matching contributions for the project.
