This weekend, churches around the country are being asked to recognize June 1 as the start of the hurricane season and on Sunday, May 28, an Interactive radio programme will be broadcast, beginning at 11 a.m.

On June 1st, the official start of hurricane season, Prime Minister, Dr. Ralph Gonsalves will host a press conference and address the nation.

Friday, June 2 will see the staging of a grand exhibition in Kingstown from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. outside the Inland Revenue Office.

The hurricane awareness activities are part of NEMO’s Public Awareness and Education Program and efforts to heighten awareness of natural hazards in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

The 2006 North Atlantic Hurricane Season is predicted to produce 13 to 16 named storms, with 8 to 10 becoming hurricanes, of which four to six could become “major” hurricanes of Category 3 strength or higher.

The hurricane season officially ends on November 30, 2006.
