Skeritt to speak at OECS Credit Unions Summit

President of the St. Vincent Co-operative Credit Union League, Reuben John, will lead a 35-member delegation from various divisions of the co-operative sector in St. Vincent and the Grenadines to the 4th Annual OECS Credit Unions Summit to be held in the Commonwealth of Dominica from May 18th to 21.

Over 200 co-operators representing 46 credit unions, national Co-operative Leagues and regulatory bodies will be attending the Summit which will be hosted by the Dominica Co-operative Societies League Ltd.{{more}}

The summit will provide an opportunity for credit union leaders to discuss the common challenges and opportunities that face the OECS Credit Union Sector; enhance institutional linkages and strategic alliances among OECS Leagues and credit unions; and develop a common vision and strategy for the growth and sustainability of the sub-regional Credit Union Movement.

The Honourable Roosevelt Skeritt, Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica, will deliver the keynote address at the Opening Ceremony of the Summit, and will also declare the Summit open. Other feature speakers who will address the ceremonial opening include Julius Timothy, Parliamentary Representative of the Roseau North Constituency; Vernice Bellony, President of the Dominica Co-operative Societies League; and representatives of the Caribbean Confederation of Credit Unions (CCCU) and the World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU).

The proceedings of the Opening Ceremony of the Summit will be broadcast live on radio stations in all participating OECS territories, from 8:45 to 9:45 a.m. on Friday, May 19. NBC Radio 705 will carry the live broadcast in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

Peter Adrien, Adviser on Finance and Development at the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB), will set the tone for the Business Session of the Summit with an address on the topic “Harmonized OECS Credit Union Legislation”.
