Customs broom sweeping cleaner

There is the old adage: “New broom sweeps clean, but the old ones know the corners.”

But Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves has come up with a new twist to the saying.

It surrounds increased and better collection at the customs. He quipped,”(the) new broom was getting into corners where the old broom never used to go.”

The Customs and Excise Department is responsible for the collection of 50 percent of recurrent revenue as a result of their operations.

Prime Minister Dr. Gonsalves’ address was delivered at the start of a seven-week training course for Junior Customs officers last Monday.
