Methodist church undergoes repairs

Major restoration work will soon begin at the Kingstown Methodist Church. Easter Sunday, April 16 brought an end to an era of the historic chapel. Originally built at a cost of 7000 pounds sterling by freed slaves and dedicated in August 1841 the Church will now be restored at a cost of some 1.2 million dollars.

During the estimated 15 months of closure worship will be held at the church hall while funerals will he held at a sister church assembly. According to congregational steward Claude Samuel every effort will be made to maintain the historic church’s original look.
