Taiwan to assist SVG with airport construction

Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves said the Republic of China on Taiwan would be assisting St. Vincent and the Grenadines with one of this country’s most important projects, the construction of the international airport.

Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves speaking at a brief handing over ceremony last Monday at the Foreign Affairs Conference Room, said that he is working closely with resident Taiwanese Ambassador, Jack Cheng, on the construction of the International Airport and the continued construction of the Cross Country road. {{more}}

The Prime Minister disclosed that he would be traveling to Taiwan by mid June to follow up on discussions that had been held with President Chen Shui Bian. He said that Taiwan continues to contribute to this country in a number of ways, including providing scholarships for Vincentians. He stated that he would like to see a linkage between the private sector of St. Vincent and the Grenadines and that of Taiwan.

At present there a nine Vincentians pursuing studies in Taiwan.
