His Excellency Sir Frederick Ballantyne congratulated McDonald on her appointment. He noted her experience as Registrar of the High Court for the past six years and expressed the hope that her acting appointment would soon be confirmed.
McDonald thanked the Governor-General for his remarks. She said that she considered it an honour to be called to the Magistracy, during what she regards as “exciting times.”
Persons seeking justice at the Family Court can expect fair and independent judgment from the new President.
As far as McDonald is concerned, she would be accountable to the law and her conscience.
Her swearing-in was witnessed by Attorney General Judith Jones-Morgan, as well as Nicole Sylvester, President of the local Bar. Sylvester is also President of the local Human Rights Association.
Tamara Gibson/Marks, Acting Registrar of the High Court, and Andrea Young attached to the Commerce and Intellectual Property Office also witnessed the ceremony.
His Excellency Sir Frederick Ballantyne commented on the number of female lawyers in the legal department.
