C&W sponsors CXC National Awards

The CXC National Awards ceremony, organized by the Ministry of Education, will this year be sponsored by Cable & Wireless.

Chief Executive Daryl Jackson stated that, “Cable & Wireless, as we so often emphasize, is committed to the development of education in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. It is rewarding to see the fine academic scholars we produce. We must acknowledge them, we much encourage them and we must reward them.”{{more}}

The sponsorship, which will total EC$9,000, will cover the cost of trophies and plaques for the event as well as Max units with two months free Internet service for the Top Male and Female performers.

The focus for the National CXC Awards in previous years was on secondary students who wrote the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) Examinations of the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC). This year, the Ministry of Education, with sponsorship from Cable & Wireless West Indies Limited, will reward not only the secondary students but also the primary pupils who took the top three positions in the Common Entrance and School Leaving Examinations.

Chief Education Officer Susan Dougan expressed the hope that “the recognition of the outstanding scholastic achievements of primary and secondary students will encourage other students and will raise the overall level of achievement in the regional and national examinations.”
