Rabacca Bridge contract signed

Government awarded two multi-million-dollar contracts to the Overseas Engineering Construction Company (OECC) on Wednesday, November 23.

The contract for the construction of the Rabacca Bridge was signed by Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves at Cabinet Room while Deputy Prime Minister Louis Straker signed the contract for the design of the third phase of the Cross Country Road. Chung-Zen “Peter” Jan, General Manager of OECC and Lan “Vincent” Wei-Sheng, Project Manager, signed on behalf of their company.{{more}}

The Prime Minister stated that works for the road from Langley Park to Rabacca including the bridge were tendered and the OECC offered the lowest tender and was awarded the contract to carry out works in the sum of

$8,479,999.99. The works include access roads and two bridge crossings, one at the Miss Jane River and the other at the Rabacca River.

“People will be getting the Rabacca Bridge; people thought that was not possible,” said Prime Minister Dr. Gonsalves.

“These are not just projects out of the sky but which will contribute to the development of St.Vincent and the Grenadines,” Prime Minister Dr. Gonsalves added.

Deputy Prime Minister Straker said work on the Cross Country Road began with the upgrading of the Troumaca Rose Hall Road, which has recently been completed at a cost of US$2.3 million. The second phase design has been completed and the construction cost is now being finalised for the works, which are expected to commence in early January, linking Cool Spot at Byera to Fergusson.

The third phase of the project is the linking of Phase 1 and 2 through the interior of St.Vincent.The design contract is scheduled for 20 months at US$1.6 million. The road will link Rose Hall and Fergusson.

Straker assured the public that all environmental matters will be addressed in an Environmental Impact Study, and Government will put in place measures to maintain the central forest and to preserve all species of wild life that currently exist.
