Poultry project for SVG

The Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) has embarked on a Small Scale Broiler Production and Slaughtering project here in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

In an interview with SEARCHLIGHT last Friday, sub regional co-ordinator for the project, David Browne said the project is geared towards sustainability in poultry production and poverty alleviation. He also mentioned that this is the first time a Vincentian has held such a post as Sub Regional Coordinator.{{more}}

Browne said the project commenced earlier this year when ten farmers were selected from the leeward side of the island. These farmers were supplied with equipment, feed, training and communal slaughtering facilities.

He noted similar projects have been undertaken in Grenada, Jamaica and St. Lucia. The project is to be completed by next July.

Browne added that the project is a demonstration project and in order for the FAO to support other projects, it must be widely accepted by the Vincentian public.
