National Export Strategy coming

On Tuesday, October 31, the National Investment Promotions Incorporated, NIPI took the first step to establishing a National Export Strategy with a launch at the Methodist Church Hall.

According to Chairman of NIPI, Edmund Jackson, the objectives of the strategy are to diversify the economy, foster economic growth and employment and improve the overall livelihood of citizens. {{more}}Jackson said given the size of St. Vincent’s small domestic market and the opportunities that will become available with the CSME, the export led economic development would assist in the development of the country.

The project commenced as a request from the Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves to the Secretary General of the Commonwealth Secretariat for assistance in the development of an export strategy.

Here to assist with the development of this strategy document were Isaac Njorore of the Special Advisory Services Division in the Commonwealth and Brain Barclay from the International Trade Centre, ITC.

The Export Strategy also will identify the goods and services that will be competitive for the foreign market. It will also analyse the areas that need improvement so that an environment for productivity is fostered. It is expected to take some 6-8 months.
