Synod fails to elect Anglican Bishop

The Elective Synod of the Diocese of the Windward Islands failed to elect a Bishop when they met here in St. Vincent on Monday.

According to Administrator of the Diocese, Dean Patrick McIntosh, none of the four persons nominated succeeded in getting the required 2/3 majority vote from both the house of clergy and the house of laity. {{more}}

The synod, which was held at the Anglican Pastoral Centre in New Montrose, had to be cut short after five rounds of balloting, as many of the overseas delegates from St. Lucia and Grenada had to catch their flights back home.

Dean McIntosh revealed that the elective synod will have to be reconvened at a convenient time so that another attempt to elect a Bishop can be made. He further noted that if all attempts to elect a Bishop fail, the responsibility of choosing a successor to Dr. Sehon Goodridge will fall on a selection committee or the House of Bishops of the Province of the West Indies.

The four persons nominated were the Reverend Canons Leopold Friday and Christian Glasgow, the Venerable Archdeacon Dr. Sylvanus Regisford and the Very Reverend Dean Patrick McIntosh.
