New Ambassador to Cuba takes up post

Former Editor of the Searchlight Newspaper, Dexter Rose has embarked on a new career path as Ambassador to the Spanish-speaking country of Cuba.

Rose, who was editor for two years, was given a send-off party by members of staff of the newspaper, and the Board of Directors of Interactive Media Ltd., publishers of Searchlight. The event included tributes and the presentation of a gift.{{more}}

The teary-eyed editor graciously accepted the compliments dished out and gave advice to reporters to be the best that they could be and to serve their newspaper and country well.

Ambassador Rose officially resigned on September 30, and left the state on Monday, October 10 for Havana, Cuba. He is expected to play an integral role in the delivery of Cuba’s promised assistance with the building of the International Airport, which is being partly funded by the government and people of Cuba.

Rose, who studied in Cuba, will take special interest in the welfare of the hundreds of Vincentian students receiving university education in the Spanish- speaking country. His first assignment will be to participate in the activities planned by the students for the celebration of this country’s 26th anniversary of Independence. Rose is St. Vincent’s first resident Ambassador to Cuba. Searchlight wishes Ambassador Rose all the best in his future endeavours.
