Interest groups meet to discuss self sufficiency production

A number of producers, buyers and agriculturalists met in St. Vincent and the Grenadines recently to discuss the organization of the local market for locally produced vegetables and fruits such as pineapple.

Their discussions centred around the development of a more effective marketing system for these crops on the local market. {{more}}Presentations made included a synopsis of a marketing study done by Dr. Donald Iton, Marketing Specialist of Caribbean Agriculture Research and Development Institute (CARDI), on ‘Vegetable Production and Marketing in St. Vincent and the Grenadines’.

According to Seithroy Edwards, Senior Agricultural Officer, the purpose of the consultation was to achieve self-sufficiency in vegetable and pineapple production, through commitments from buyers and local producers, to work together to satisfy their business interests as well as the development of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
