Layou Skills Training a success

Nine Layou parents are now equipped to make a better life for themselves and their families after completing an eight-week cake-baking and decorating skills training course.

The course arose out of a needs assessment done in June with the parents of children attending the Vinsave Pre-school in Layou. At the request of the residents, the workshop and training course were organized by Janet Davey, an intern participating in the Caribbean Internship Project (CIP), a project of the Caribbean Support Initiative (CSI).{{more}}

The skills training course was executed by the Skills Training Unit in the Ministry of Education and Julia Clarke, the facilitator for the course, was pleased with the ladies’ interest. “They make the sacrifice and come to the classes even though they all have commitments at home,” she said. In fact she explained that when one parent could not find a baby sitter, she would take her baby to class with her. The classes ran from Monday to Thursday at 3- 6 p.m. from July 11 to August 25.
